Cienega High School opened in 2001 as the first comprehensive high school in the Vail School District. As the largest high school in Vail, we are able to offer something for every student. We have over 100 extra-curricular clubs, award winning fine arts programs, a variety of Advanced Placement courses, a competitive sports program, comprehensive Special Education services, and the largest Navy Junior ROTC program in Arizona. Cienega offers a wide variety of Career and Technical Education courses, which include Agriculture, Law and Public Safety, Building Trades, Photography, Entrepreneurship and Media Arts. Cienega students are truly connected to their school community and strive to excel in all aspects of their education. Our mission is Connections, High Standards, and Success.
Cienega has earned the state distinction of an “A” labeled school, and has been recognized as an A+ school by the Arizona Education Foundation. Part of what makes us an A+ school is our Commitment to Graduate program (C2G). Each year our students renew their pledge to reach the ultimate goal—walking across the stage to receive their high school diploma. At Cienega, we celebrate this commitment every chance we get! Another foundation to our culture is our focus on Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS). We are always looking for creative and positive ways to improve our school.
In the Vail School District, high school students exercise school choice. Students who choose Cienega are looking for an academically rigorous education with all the amenities of a large comprehensive high school. We are very proud of what makes us unique such as our Freshman Academy, our Education Center/Library, and our Reteach Program opportunities both before and after school.
